Trisha Paytas - An Analysis of a Shape-Shifting Micro-Celeb - Taha El Taha (200522118)

Trisha Paytas is known to be the Epitome of Attention Economy.

Before her big presence at celerity big brother, Trisha wanted to do what she can to take advantage of the attention economy, thus making earnings through enigmatic and also problematic means. Yet pertaining to a small fanbase, that embraces her "iconic" and "relatable" behaviors.

She Managed to shapeshift into different personalities, cases, stories, and talents in just the first few years of her career. With the very first being a feature on a TLC show for being " super tanned", to making it on a Tv feature on a game show, then attending, *sigh* Americas Got Talent, only to show off her fast reading skills and appreciation towards one of the judges of that show. Then making a feature on Ellen to show off her reading skills again.

The way she wants to narrate and market herself, seems inconsistent, whether successful or not, whether positive or negative, any attention is still good for her business. Well Actually her behavior is quite more common than many anticipate. Of course with the rise of Myspace, allowed people to brand themselves in their way, without the painstaking professional promotion and push to be something out there, it has made it accessible and easy for anyone to be a mini-celebrity. Paris Hilton is exemplary to such a case of nontraditional celebrity's culture ( though Paris Hilton is iconic, and a mood lol ), she set the stone to the rise of famous for being famous. The first-ever influencer.

Unlike traditional hustlers, Trisha seeks to manipulate her ways to turn herself into a whole different character, a whole different story, and lifestyle every once in a while. The unhealthy obsession to partake in celebrities' culture has spiraled her to become the problematic stock of the internet. she DID also mention that trolls for a living.

Since youtube came into existence, she took advantage of that instead of having to do what she can to be on a different television feature now and then. With the rise of the PC culture, that is where today's audience got to see her true problematic and deceptive nature. With her faking illnesses, converting to a different religion, to claiming to be a part of another race or ethnicity.

The internet allows people to curate and produce and even anonymously manufacture themselves(brand-wise). Even if you are authentic out there, something about this still seems fabricated, and thus you would fall and get tricked or catfished. Insecure individuals, psychopaths, and more also can have a platform. So we can say that the internet functions as a void with tools to build, it's up to you and everyone using the internet on how you get to leave your digital footprints.

In conclusion, Trisha's actions don't seem surprising, as the non-traditional celebrity's culture was built like a personalized sandbox, there are almost no limits to how you market yourself on the internet, whereas traditional celebrities, with having their publicists, ensure that their image and representation stays consistent and clear with their brand.
