SELFIES ( Rumeysa Mıh - 190423101)

The word ‘selfie’, which was added to the Oxford dictionary in 2013, has become an indispensable element of our lives. Firstly, the selfie is to capture ourselves on camera in the best possible way. In fact, this situation has been around for a very long time, but in recent years it has become quite popular. Although it actually looks like a simple photo taking game, it is not as simple as it seems. Our selfies offer an idea about us from the outside. Even the facial expressions we make when posing can tell a lot about our character.

As photo editing applications have become a phenomenon, people have become more uncomfortable with their own images. Thus, they gradually lost their confidence in themselves. Filters of digital applications such as Instagram, snapchat make people look quite different and get the image they want. People get into an expectation by people when they post on social media after they get the desired image. ‘ The desire to be liked’ . As their selfies are liked, they will interact and this will satisfy people. Thus, they will have self-confidence based on filters. Selfies can damage real-world relationships. People do not want to go out to meet someone, they do not want to get involved in society. Because the face they sees when they looks in the mirror is not the same as the face they sees when they looks at his phone. For this situation, we can say that it makes the society we live in more asocial. People can even forget to enjoy that moment dec taking a selfie, even if they are getting together with their friends.

As a result, although selfies give people satisfying emotions, they can also have dangerous consequences for the society we have today.
