Selfie - Arda Murat Eğilmez (190527048)

With the development of mobile phone technologies in the last decade, it has become much easier to take and share selfies. However, people have inadvertently turned selfies into a competitive tool. Unintentionally, individuals compare own life with the lives of other people. People need this to become an accepted individual in the society by sharing in this way. Furthermore, selfies lead people to narcissism by making them more self-centered individuals into believing that only they are important. Accordingly, it can be said that people who are very obsessed to selfies have narcissistic personality and low self-confidence. Since social media does not tell the truth, everyone takes thousands of photos and shares on social media that they seem the happiest among them. Thus, in most selfies it can be said that on social media, people seem to be living their lives as if they are not affected by the negativity of real life. By motivating themselves in this way, these selfies taken and uploaded on social media do not reflect real life, but when other people see these selfies, they think that this person is a great person. Moreover, when all people post selfies like this, it starts to be noticed; These shared selfies are not what people really want to share, and that people are not like the people in the selfies.

The feeling of wanting to be seen of liked, shifted from being there in the middle of the room trying to catch attention. To a digital photo that can be shown to even more people. And now with the metavrse becoming a thing, I believe it will elevate even more. For example, NFTs and people showing off buying expensive digital photos.
