Samet Binkanat(Algorithm...)

Algorithms have always existed in our lives. They have become even more present in the digital age. People used to apply certain algorithms to achieve their goals, now we are getting more exposure to algorithms. Whichever algorithm we are exposed to, our culture changes and the place where these algorithms are most applied today is social media. For instance, Kendall Jenner, a famous model, applies her own algorithm on her social media, and when people are exposed to these algorithms, they want to have features that they do not have and maybe even do not have the manufacturer itself. The event is more innocent when applying its own algorithm, but algorithms made in cooperation with brands completely affect society, culture, and social life. Because a brand asks Kendall to make Kendall's non-lifestyle look like a lifestyle in order to increase the sales of the brand, even if people are aware of it, they flow through the algorithm. This issue is very dangerous in algorithmic culture because Kendall, who lives in America, shows the algorithm of America, it might not be a problem. The dangerous part about this is the algorithms created on the sale of the brand, people change their lives by following algorithms for the sake of brands and lifestyles, which can be one of the most dangerous things in life. Finally, I think people should create their own algorithms or choose algorithms that they feel very close to, without getting caught up in marketing and not endangering social life.
