Remix Culture ( nadlin alaghbari)

Most of us know or heard about Anatomy of a Megamix. It’s a mashup consists of 187 songs for almost one hour. This phenomenon is called remix culture. Remix culture, also known as read-write culture, refers to a society that permits and encourages the creation of derivative works by mixing or altering existing elements to create a new creative work or product. By default, a remix culture would be accepting of efforts to improve, adapt, integrate, or remix the work of copyright holders. However, there are a lot of arguments about them because it is against the policy of copy right. Remix culture has produced a climate in which having or owning "original work" is practically impossible for artists. Media and the internet have made art so accessible that it invites different interpretations and, as a result, remixing. In my opinion, as we use some quotations from books and movies not only in our daily life, but also in writing articles and books, mashups and remix are used in the same way. They don’t destroy the identity of the arts nor hide their real owners, but they are used in terms of merging, editing and innovations. From other point of view, it might be another way of promoting of the original work. For instance, I when I was listening to 24 seven’s 2012 pop mashup and I didn’t know most of the songs. After that, I google for every single song of them.
