As a person who adores memes and the creative ideas pulled out of them, I've always wondered what does the word "meme" means, and how it started and how it shaped digital culture to be as what it is today.
The word "meme" was first coined by revelotionery biologist "Richerd Dawkens" in a novel about evelotionry genetecs, and it's origins are from the ancint greek term " Mimeme" which means imitated things. "Dawkins" argues that memes is a cultural idea that that widely spaereding and passes through generations, the same thing happens with genes and how it inherited from generation to another in order to servuive, so does memes, information spreading through communities and share it from a community to another as a type of culture belonging, but why would people imitate and spread information that might be representing their ideological perspective, simply to feel included and belonged to, becuase humans is a social beings by nature and it unpleasant feeling to be an outcast.
internet memes is completely different from the word that "Dawkins" qoutied, it's a cultural phenomena that been created via digitized communities and it has raised alongside social media platforms, and the way is posted with is by downloading an captured photo or a pop culture material with a text typed on it, and the idea of the meme mostly reflect on situations that happens in real life, thus it's considered to be an excpretion language that summraies complicated events or normal situation as a form of comic image.
therefore, when all the human fractions come together along with digital culture ideas, the way internet memes spared is completely by random chance, the moment an internet meme is shared by a random user it passas through different accounts, it is shared among frindes and fameiley, or even another meme accounts that share the same thought and that's way it happens on social media like ( Instagram, facebook, etc.).
Today, internet mems is more organized validated by digital communities specially among the younger generation, and it reflects on different aspects around the world such as,( politics, entertainment, problems in society), and its still one the most reliable ways for communication on the internet.
