BUT FIRST, LET ME TAKE A SELFIE! SERINE CHOUABI 210526051

SELFIE TIME!! Selfie is basically a picture where we outstretch our arms to click a picture of us with a background showing behind us using a smartphone and uploaded to social media platforms or sent or kept it in our galleries. But what is this obsession we have with selfies? we look good or bad selfie, cry or happy selfie, angry moody selfie. It became a way for us to express our emotions and put it out there in our own space. Selfies used to be related a lot to a girly narcissism thing, especially that Kim Kardashian was one of the first people or stars to take a lot of selfies therefore it used to be seen as shallow. But over the time it became probably the most normal and repetitive thing done worldwide all the time by everyone and all genders. Selfies now are not just being used to self portrait, it is being used to make political statements, social movements, marketing, activism and empowerment. It is also a way for us to demonstrate and show our image to the world how we want to be seen, hence it is also related to confidence boosting. Moreover, after selfies boomed and became one of the most popular words or concept a lot of photos editing app were introduced to social media to enhance the looks of our selfies…

In general, Selfies self present us and make a statement about us and our personalities saying “ LOOK AT ME, THIS IS WHO I AM”. And a way of people to interact with each other.

I liked how you approach the subject. Nowadays, Selfies are no longer only a front picture of ourselves, but also seen as a self image that we try to show in front of communities in the digital world. As it is a way to retain memories with our loved ones, it is a double-edge feature that may lower our confidence especially with filters added that make us more self-conscious about our appearance. Well done!
