BENEFITS OF DIGITAL ARCHIVES BY DILARA NUR OKA

Digital archives I found the ''Library of Congress'' has many digital resources available. From American History, Government, Law and Politics, World Cultures and History to Art and Architecture and Science technology. The library provides a wide, diverse, and permanent source of archives to inform and inspire curious people with intellectual and creative resources. I said permanent because digital resources do not wear out like paper and can be stored for many years. The library allows us to access these various resources easily. It has librarians that help everyone with experience and no experience online and personally.

In other words, if you do research and if there is a point that you could not understand, the knowledgeable librarians in the library inform you or direct you online to a source where you can find the questions you are curious about. On topics where you can get help online with a variety of resources. From Business, Local History, Humanities & Social Sciences, Newspapers, Periodicals, Comics. Digital archives provide access to all kinds of resources, from Rare Books, Special Collections to Recorded Sounds. Qualitative or quantitative; Cultural data, which is divided into types such as text, image, video, audio, numerical and spatial, is presented in a comfortable and wide way with the blessings of technology to researchers, readers, and people interested in these subjects. The reason I say wide is that it extends its digital resources not only to American or English-speaking countries but also to Africa, the Middle East, Asia, the Caribbean, Iberia, Latin America, and Europe.

Advantages of Digital Archives unlike traditional resources:

  • Paper, microfilms, and these kinds of archives are never used in the long term. It is difficult to protect such documents physically but thanks to digital copies, the documents can be used for many years without wearing them out.

  • There is a certain cost for the resources that need to be digitized, but this cost is much cheaper and longer-lasting than traditional resources.

  • Digital resources save space and are easy to locate and locate and files can be downsized, but this is not possible with traditional archives.

  • For users from all over the world, digital archives are more efficient and provide multiple simultaneous access. Simplify the research process, as only an internet connection is required to access the resources.

  • It is one of the advantages of digital archives in providing superior protection against disasters and preventing losses.

In addition, these advantages can easily understand when the Library of Congress, where the digital archive is located, is examined.

(You can examine the online library and the digital archives are located that I mentioned)
