Algorithms that follow you every second - Arda Murat Eğilmez (190527048)

Today, societies are changing faster than ever before. The reason for this change is Digitalization and information age which have been introduced algorithms, and most importantly, learning algorithms (artificial intelligence) into our lives. With the inclusion of digitalization in human life, all cultural and social consumptions of consumers have been taken into account by algorithms. Today, a well-written algorithm has the capacity to know people much better than people do. The best example of these algorithms is an academic professor named Michal Kosinski. Koninski argues that he can design a well-written algorithm that analyzes your 70 likes on social media and can get to know you better than your friends. If you show the algorithm your 150 likes, it will know you better than your parents. Moreover, it is claimed that if you show your 300 likes, they will know you even better than your spouse. Beyond that, with more likes, algorithms can know you better than you. A consulting firm used a similar algorithm in the Trump presidential election. This algorithm, which is created with big data and artificial intelligence, has analyzed the social media behaviors of the voters and analyzed, their weak points and expectations. Therefore, Trump has succeeded in getting votes from all segments, by making unique approaches to different groups of voters and making promises according to the different wishes of these different groups. As a result, the most important issue in danger in today's algorithmic culture world is human. Algorithms follow people every second and learn all their weak points. Thus, people can be easily manipulated using these weak points.
